  • Don’t iron
  • Don’t soak
  • Don’t bleach
  • Don’t dry clean
  • Don’t tumble-dry
  • Dry in the shade
  • Avoid rough surfaces
  • Don’t pack or store when wet
  • Separate light and dark colours before whashing
  • Avoid excess contact with deodorants, make-up or perfume
  • Avoid excess contact with suntan lotions and harsh chemicals

2 – Looking after silk

Silk is a natural and noble material and if it’s well looked after it will improve with time.
And continue to delight you.

Washing : Silk is very fragile so hand wash only in soapy lukewarm water using a  soft soap or a special silk shampoo.
Soak for 3 to 5 minutes in lukewarm water. (For dark or printed silk wash uniquely and quickly in cold water.  Never soak !).
During this time move the tissue lightly from front to back. Once the silk is wet act with prudence as the silk is more fragile when wet.

Rinsing : After a maximum of 5 minutes in the water remove the silk and wash in cold water, adding a few drops of alcohol vinegar or a sugar to the cold water so as to remove the remaining soap traces. Then rinse.

Drying : Place the silk on a towel and roll, pressing lightly so that the towel will absorb the water. Then remove the towel and  gently unroll  the silk.
Silk will not tolerate wringing. To dry just stretch flat on a towel.

Ironing : silk is ironed face down and slightly damp with the iron at a very low temperature !
Silk will not tolerate high temperatures. Silk is similar protein wise to hair.
Drying flat is often enough so there is no need to iron.

Recommendations :

  • Never spray perfume or deodorant on silk
  • Never wash silk with whitening agents
  • Never expose silk for too long to direct sunlight because the rays yellow it
  • Never sprinkle water on silk during ironing
  • Never remove stains with water as this will leave traces
  • Never wring silk
  • Never use bleach
  • Never put silk in a dryer, expose to sunlight or hang on a radiator
  • To remove yellowing , soak the silk in a bath of three quarters water and one quarter oxygenated water and with a drop of ammonia.
    Then rinse in clean water.

3 – Looking after leather

Leather is a natural and living product. This kind needs very little looking after.

For simple cleaning or maintenance, place a knob of baby oil on a soft cloth which is clean and dry. Apply it gently in a circular motion. Repeat the action taking care to turn the cloth. Leave to dry naturally in the shade and then polish lightly with a soft cloth which is clean and dry.

Recommendations :

  • Avoid excess contact with deodorants, make-up or perfume
  • Avoid excess contact with suntan lotions and harsh chemicals
  • Don’t use polish or aerosols
  • Don’t use detergents or stain removers
  • Don’t bleach
  • Avoid all excessive rubbing or other abrasive activities
  • Don’t soak
  • Don’t dry clean
  • Don’t dry out or expose the leather to the sun or other heat source
  • Don’t tumble-dry
  • Don’t iron
  • Don’t pack or store when wet
  • Allow the leather to dry naturally
